Neighbourhood: Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

Great singer, great venue shame about the drunken woman who managed to shout loudly and make a complete show of herself throughout the performance. Theres always someone who thinks they are more important than the artist. Its a shame the venue didnt take more if a stance on this as it ruined our evening

Electric Circus has become an important addition to Edinburgh's live music scene, staging everything from local acts playing to their mates to internationally renowned artists. It's a good size - not too big to put a smaller band off booking it and not too small to be overlooked by bigger acts. So far this year I've seen Edinburgh based indie band Quiet as a Mouse and touring acts like RnB/Pop-star, heading for the big time, Natalie Prass and underground spoken word/rap legend B Dolan. There isn't a genre this venue won't book.
It's not just a live music venue though. You can book it for private parties, there are karaoke rooms, they offer cocktail lessons and can provide a selection of hot and cold food.
The toilets are clean, the bar is well stocked and there's a very relaxed atmosphere. It's a cool place.

Trendy Wendy (DJ)kicks butt! If you are a fan of 70/80s music, she puts a nice spin on it. The drinks are good, and people dress up. The atmosphere is always "lets get pissed" great place!
