Eat walk Edinburgh offer two Food walking tours. One explores Edinburgh's Old & New towns and the other the lower half of the Royal Mile called the Cannongate. On each of these tours you will visit unusual/hidden restaurants, bars and shops, taste dishes specially prepared for you. Sample individually selected drinks (beers, wine and whisky), talk to the chefs/owners and discover the history behind the properties. The Old & new town tour (1pm-4.30pm) which has five food stops with two wine tastings and a single cask malt whisky tasting ensuring you will not need to worry about dinner in the evening. The Cannongate tour (10am-1pm) enjoys six stops including a Bloody Mary cocktail and breakfast canapes to get the tour off and running. By the end there will be no need for lunch. The Old & New town tour was recommended in BBC Good Food Magazine as a "Don't miss" thing to do in Edinburgh. Delicious magazine also has it down as a must do.

We ended up being the only people on the tour, and it was just wonderful. We learned so much not only about the food of the area, but also the history of Edinburgh told by a local. I would recommend this tour to anyone who loves food. Go hungry, and be willing to try anything - the food is all... More

We did the walking food tour with Ian and had a great time. There were four of us so we got to know each other pretty well. The food and restaurant selection was varied and well chosen, and we tried a number of things I probably would've avoided otherwise. What a great way to get to see a city and... More

Very glad we chose this walking/eating tour of Edinburgh. The starting point was very close to our hotel, so it was so convenient to just walk over! There was one other couple whom we joined and it turned out they were at the same hotel. The food items chosen and places we visited were all excellent. It was definitely worth... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
