Felt like running ala Chariots of Fire but at 3 degrees kept my hands in my pockets and strolled along this lovely stretch of sand beside the iconic St Andrews golf course - was cold in November I tell you.

Been here many of times. Summer, spring, autumn and winter too. It is rather wild and windy but the views more than make up for it. Come back here every time visiting.

Love west beach sands to experience a great beach and a lovely walk. Nowhere in the world can match it ! Blows the cobwebs away when windy, a sun trap when the sun shines. Go and enjoy it

Famous for filming for chariots of fire & such a stunning location. Makes you want to run along to the music. Absolutely love visiting here especially on a blowy sunny day.

Even on a brisk October Sunday afternoon, this beach was very busy with families runners, surf boarders and even a few hardy swimmers. There was a wonderful atmosphere which increased the feel good factor of this town.

This is a terrific place for a walk with the dogs. The beach seems never ending and is never too busy due to its size. Very clean beach too. Great views of St. Andrews and the old course just behind the dunes.

A beautiful day for a walk on West Sands Beach at St. Andrews. Ample parking and miles of sandy beaches - wasn’t expecting to find this at St. Andrews. Apparently famous for the opening scenes on “Chariots of Fire” which made it even more appealing....More

This beach should be familiar as the one from the film Chariots of Fire. With the town's history in the schism of the church one can almost imagine the young men training for their foot race along the shore. Be aware of how fast the...More

My only guess would be that a lot of sea birds take advantage of bivalves dislodged/disturbed during storms. At least that's what I see here on our beach in Madison, CT.
