Great to see the rooms and furniture as it should be. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. No cameras or bags allowed and no touching the furniture

Mackintosh was a ground breaking architect and designer at the turn of the 19th century who wanted to challenge what he saw as the excesses of Victoriana. His work was influential long after his lifetime. He and his artist wife Margaret bought a Glasgow Victorian Terrace and altered the inside dramatically, furnishing it with his own idiosyncratic pieces. When the... More

The House is a part of the Hunterian Art Gallery. The Gallery is free, there is a charge for visiting the House. For anyone interested in Mackintosh's design, the House is a must.Whilst the building itself is a replica of the house where the Mackintoshes lived but all the furniture and objects in it are authentic dating back to 1890s... The Mackintosh House sits within the Hunterian, so a good couple of hours of enlightenment! The house itself is not huge and I wouldn't want to visit in the high tourist season, but our visit in January gave us enough space to really soak in the fabulous designs and ideas, which can give our "contemporary" designs a run for it's... As a lover of all things Mackintosh this is a must do for me. The area is set out as rooms depicting his designs. Walking around you gain a true sense of how innovative he was. The attention to detail and simplicity is there to breath in as you walk round.

Lovely to be able to walk round and see the furniture Mackintosh designed for his own use. Very small display though, it won't take long to go round!

Mackintosh House is built within the Hunterian which stands within the University's grounds so worth a trip for that alone. If you want to get a feel for just how contemporary Mackintosh was then this is the place to visit. You get a real sense of how ahead of his time he was with his ideas and designs. The only... More

The Hunterian Art Gallery wasn’t that exciting but it is from here you join the tour of the reconstructed Mackintosh House. It includes the reassembled principal interiors of the house occupied by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife Margaret Macdonald from 1906 to 1914. These rooms are considered outstanding works of art in their own right and contain their original... More

Interesting old house with original artifacts. Students of architecture will enjoy studying the different rooms.

The Mackintosh house is an art nouveau gem and a must see when you visit Glasgow. They have reconstructed their house exactly and fitted it with furniture and the fittings from the original. To wander through the house and look at these is like stepping into a more relaxed and civilised time. The guides are fantastic and full of knowledge... More
