Overview
More
The award-winning St Mungo Museum is a haven of tranquility in a bustling city. This museum is named after Glasgow's patron saint, who brought the Christian faith to Scotland in the 6th century. The building was built in 1989 in Scottish baronial style by Ian Begg. It was designed to reflect the architecture of the Bishops' Castle, the site of which is occupied by the museum. Its galleries are full of displays, artifacts and stunning works of art. They explore the importance of religion in peoples' lives across the world and across time. The venue aims to promote understanding and respect between people of different faiths and of none, and offers something for everyone. You can find out more about some of the world's major religions, and the story of religion in the west of Scotland. Or you can relax in the museum cafe, which opens out into the first Zen garden in Britain. St Mungo Museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions and a variety of events, from family-friendly activities to talks relating to religion in Scotland today. This museum sits across from Provand's Lordship, which is the oldest house in Glasgow, and alongside the medieval Glasgow Cathedral. Why not take a trip to visit all three?

This features information on lots of different religions and spiritual beliefs. There are lots of interactive things for kids and adults to do and a variety of artefacts and art. It's not overly big either so good for a brief stop.

The museum offers a well presented series of exhibits depicting the religious life of Glasgow over it's history. The information covers both the major religions such as Christianity and some of the perhaps more obscure ones. The staff are all helpful and knowledgable and more...More

It does show exhibits from several religions, but the statements posted throughout seem to very biased and not coming from scholars - apparently, views of individuals.

We visited because of its close proximity to Glasgow Cathedral, we'd been encouraged to do so by one of the cathedral staff and we were ready for a cup of tea! However we were glad we visited. It is a small, well laid out museum...More

The museum covers religions, all religions and has items from Australian Aboriginal history through Greek, Roman, Vedic, Abrahamaic and more. Uncluttered and well displayed. A pleasant idle.

Entrance is free. Suggested donation of £3. The museum is not too big. There are some interesting artifacts to see from various religions. I wouldn't say this is a "MUST" on a sightseeing list but worth a quick stop should you find yourself in Cathedral...More

I thought this was a museum about the patron saint of Scotland. But instead it was a summary of all religious practise and believe. Sort of a religiouscstudies 101.
