Was horrified to see someone dressed as Hitler for Halloween. I thought this was extremely bad taste and put me off buying anything. Did not want to spend my money where that is thought to be acceptable. Spoilt my visit and I doubt I will return.

The Barras is a popular weekend market in Glasgow in Scotland and the biggest in the city. It is located in the East End district and right by the famous Barrowlands concert venue where many well known bands and singers have played. The genesis of the market goes back to the early 20th century where traders would be selling their... More

I am visiting my family in Scotland. As a teenager I remember trips to the Barras fondly. There always seemed to be interesting stuff for sale and great characters around. I went back yesterday and the heart just seems Rio have been ripped out of the place. About half of the indoor stalls were empty and dusty and about half... More

We were recommended to visit while on the hop on hop off tour bus. She made it sound like Aladdin's cave full of treasures and interesting finds. The reality is sadly nothing like this. There are a range of stalls some outside and some in the covered market area. It didn't feel like a pleasant place to be. Many stalls... More

Pitched as 'the' place in Glasgow for an authentic market experience, it is certainly authentic, if you are Oliver Twist and the year is 1837. Gloomy, dismal and grubby, you might find this the experience that defines your trip to Glasgow, but the reality of the Barras is that they need to pick up their game. Grunge can be hip,... More

10 years ago I remember Barras Market was bustling with vendors and there was a really nice atmosphere. Went yesterday and half of it seemed abandoned. Quite depressing. I suppose one could still go rummage through piles of old books, but if you're visiting Glasgow for a few days I don't think it's worth the walk at all.

This is one of the weirdest markets ive ever visited but weird in a good way . There are many buildings with stalls inside and out selling almost everything you could think of ....and more . The market is on every saturday and sunday and is quite busy and friendly even the illegal cigarette sellers are full of the banter,... More

Hadn't been at the Barras for 20+ years so was excited to be going back. When I was last there it was buzzing, stall holders were funny and witty, you could by anything from snake oil to a tumble dryer. This time It was awful! Empty, tatty, drab, poor, depressing, surely the Barras cannot last, looked like on its last... More

We go to the Barras with every trip to Scotland because there are still some great stalls there. Focus on the antiques and comics and explore the many other areas. We also love talking to the many many characters there. Always great fun Just also be realistic that some of the other stalls aren't up to much. That is okay,... More
