A must visit if ever in Glasgow. Stunning Neo-Gothic university buildings, magnificent parks and gardens, museums, churches, multi-cultural cafes and restaurants, trendy bars and classic shops abound. Strolling around the area is a real pleasure and my wife and I can’t wait to return.

On a recent trip to Glasgow we ventured further afield than the city centre and visited Ashton Lane. Ashton Lane is basically a small enclosed lane with numerous pubs and restaurants and is located at the Hillhead subway station in Glasgow’s west end (at the...More

Great place for a wander and to soak in the impressive architecture and get some peace and quiet. Our hosts reckoned this area had an equivalence with London's Mayfair in many ways.

The term "West End" may be larger or smaller than your map shows as withihn the broad designation there are sub-neighborhoods.

I love the vibe of Glasgow's West End but the streets are becoming very dirty. No sign of street sweepers, the street drain covers are full of old leaves and litter. It's expensive to live here; very high rateable value and even residents parking charges...More

Lots of nice places to eat or go for a coffee in the West end. If you take the underground to Hillhead you come out on to Byers Road which is always busy and popular with students and locals alike. Similar feel to Stock bridge...More

I'd definitely recommend getting the underground to the botanical gardens as parking can be tricky. Some side streets do have parking available, but the availability can be a bit hit or a miss!

The Oran Mor at the top of Byres Road is probably your best bet.
