Steam through the stunning Scottish Highlands in style. Our steam engines take you on a very special trip through the Cairngorms National Park as you travel between Aviemore, Boat of Garten and Broomhill. Why not make your trip extra special with one of our dining on board options: Light Lunch offers soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee; Afternoon Tea has some sandwiches, scones with jam and cream followed by some delicious cakes; or enjoy a full three course Sunday Lunch or Dinner. Why not upgrade to First Class to enjoy a meal in one of our compartments, finely decorated in it's own tartan, with vintage British Rail mirrors and luggage racks inside.Split your trip up with a visit to Boat of Garten to explore some fantastic walk trails or bring your bike on board to explore the great cycle routes in the area. See if you can beat the train back from Broomhill on your bike!We are also taking part in the Great Railway Treasure Hunt 2013, so there's plenty for the kids to do on the trip!

I visited the Strathspey Railway the other day and on the whole it was a wonderful trip. The coaches were nice and warm (thanks to the steam heat), the scenery was spectacular (with snow!) and the staff were very friendly. However, the only thing that stops this review getting five out of five is that when you buy your tickets... More

Dear Customer Thank you for your feedback we value this as it helps us to plan for the future. We have allocated tables during our busy Christmas services in an attempt to make sure everyone has the space they have paid for and can sit together with their family and friends, but we obviously need to make it clear that... Overall as a family we really enjoyed the trip on the Santa Express, however, there were a few things that could be improved on to make it even better. 1. Christmas music onboard the train would give a bit of atmosphere. 2. Either improve the quality of the food or else reduce ticket price and don't serve complimentary food. The... More

Dear Customer Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we value all feedback. I am pleased that you enjoyed the trip overall, we pride ourselves on providing a good gift for the children. Our catering for these services has only ever been a snack, a wee festive treat, though from feed back we know the pork pie... More

After reading the reviews for the santa steam railway experience i thought iteould be perfect for my 4 year old. We try to do something different every year. It took us 2.5hours to get here in pretty bad weather. On boarding the train it was very unorganised leaving 20 minutes late, there was no music, no cheerful staff, it was... More

Dear Customer Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we value all customer feedback. I do find it a shame that you did not enjoy your trip, our services are authentic heritage services, run mainly by our amazing team of volunteers. We did have Elves coming through with letters for Santa and crayons for the children. Our... More

We took the kids on the Santa Express for a Christmas treat. The effort the staff/volunteers put in is outstanding, they really should be given an award. We travelled all the way from Glasgow and it was well worth the price, with the presents from Santa being of good quality. It really is a must at Christmas.

An amazing way to get into the festive spirit. We went with friends and our two year old daughter. The journey took about two hours which included a short stop at Broomhill where you could get off for 10-15mins. We had plenty of opportunities for photos with Santa before getting on the train and at this stop. We got our... More

Just returned from a weekend in Aviemore and went on the Santa Express with my family and grandsons. The staff were dressed in either period costume or as elves. Santa was there of course. The station and the carriages were decked out in Christmas decorations. We had mulled wine as we went to our seats then had a packed lunch... More

We visited the Christmas Santa train on Sunday the 27th of Nov 2016. The staff were very helpful and although we booked as two parties they made sure we were sitting together on the train. The Santa was very realistic and spent a decent amount of times with the kids. The only issue was the food served as part of... More
