We are a museum set in Cameron Square which is just off of the centre of Fort William High Street. We have eight rooms packed with fascinating objects, from treasure from a shipwrecked Spanish Armada galleon to the bagpipes played at Bannockburn in 1314. Whether its archaeology, natural history, warfare and weaponry, highland crofting life, costumes and charms, victorian times, silver, coins and medals, or even the history of mountain rescue, it can all be found at the West Highland Museum.

Our B&B host recommended this museum and it was easy to find. The enthusiasm of the volunteers got me really excited to discover all the rooms and take in the information the museum had to offer. The museum is free of charge but donations are welcome. I'd really recommend people visiting this museum even if they are not staying in... More

Although I live in Glencoe it took me a few years before I visited the Museum, but when I did visit I wish I had visited sooner. My Son is studying History at St.Andrews University, so we paid a visit to the museum. I found the Staff to be helpful if you asked them a question. Lots of interesting things... More

Another search for shelter from Hurricane Barbara. Very Interesting Museum. Staff were friendly and helpful. The museum is a ground and first floor. there is a stair lift to a messenine floor. A floor plan is given on arrival and somewhere to hang your coat. Comprehensive exhibition on the Commandos with a short film to be watched. Very interesting collection... More

Decided to pop in on a rainy day whilst in Fort William. The volunteers were very helpful, gave me the layout of the building and enquires if there was anything in particular I wished to see. The exhibits are very interesting, the stairs in the building would not make it easy for the elderly or infirm but was fine for... More

Extremely helpful and friendly staff welcomed us. Wonderful museum for all ages and I can't believe it was free. We were more than happy to donate to this wonderful place. Spent a good hour looking round and all the family really enjoyed our visit. Highly recommend this museum to all.

A little gem of a museum. Visited here for the first time, found it interesting, especially the commando exhibition. There is quite a bit to see and read. Take time out from shopping and visit this museum, its free but a donation at the end of the visit, is appreciated. Disabled acces is good. The staff are helpful.

A really interesting place packed with lots of artefacts linked to the locality. I really liked the history behind the metal coffin protector - something new for me - and the hidden painting of the king. The curators were really friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We didn't know what to expect. We went along to see the commando collection. However we did not allow enough time to see the rest of the collection which quite frankly was huge. The meeter and greeter got the introduction just right. We are going back for another visit soon. If you are in Fort William don't miss this one
