We are a museum set in Cameron Square which is just off of the centre of Fort William High Street. We have eight rooms packed with fascinating objects, from treasure from a shipwrecked Spanish Armada galleon to the bagpipes played at Bannockburn in 1314. Whether its archaeology, natural history, warfare and weaponry, highland crofting life, costumes and charms, victorian times, silver, coins and medals, or even the history of mountain rescue, it can all be found at the West Highland Museum.

A really interesting place packed with lots of artefacts linked to the locality. I really liked the history behind the metal coffin protector - something new for me - and the hidden painting of the king. The curators were really friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We didn't know what to expect. We went along to see the commando collection. However we did not allow enough time to see the rest of the collection which quite frankly was huge. The meeter and greeter got the introduction just right. We are going back for another visit soon. If you are in Fort William don't miss this one

As an ex Commando my main reason for visiting this museum was to see the Commando Room exhibition. (The first commandos were trained nearby during the war) It was very interesting but I was amazed at the rest of the museum. Real genuine artifacts from the history of the region. Some examples are a copper plate to print money ordered... More

What a welcome in this little beauty. One entire room was for The Commando's. As my beloved father was a commando that alone done it for me. However it was a really special museum. The staff were so very welcoming. You felt very at ease. It's not at all "stuffy" which a lot of museums can be. Great Scottish history.... More

Learn about the Commando history and training and Scottish History. Not a large museum but well laid out and interesting. Free with opportunity to donate. Worth a visit

We came to this museum recently while touring Scotland, and found it fascinating. This place is chock full of all kinds of artifacts and relics that date back years and years. I found the items from the era of Prince Bonnie Charlie and the Jacobite Uprising of particular interest. Well worth a visit!

Tucked away in a corner of the town square you will find the West Highland Museum. It's not a large building but it houses a great treasure trove of exhibits. I was especially interested in the Commando Exhibition and the Jacobite history. The staff are wonderful, warm and attentive. Give yourself at least one to two hours minimum to really... More

The museum is in the main square of Fort William just off the High Street and looks very small from the outside. Inside it opens up Tardis -like and even the history of the building is interesting. One of the rooms is dedicated to the Commandos of the British Army who trained in the locality and there is are extensive... More

WE didn't have much time to view everything but what we saw was very interesting and is well worth spending a couple of hours here.
