Completed this tour amongst many others with Statesman Rail over the years and loved them all. Looking for a repeat visit to Fort William I've checked out the latest Statesman Rail prices for two in Pullman Dining class. Prices in just two years have increased over 46% from £1,100 to £1,610. WEST HIGHLAND & JACOBITE STATESMAN 2, Friday 27 to... More

I went first class. But it is a very basic compartment and very dated in a bad way. Old formica not old oak! Dinner was quite good breakfast ok. Service very good on this train. Great helpful staff. I will go again next year after they introduce new trains and showers etc.

I needed to travel from home to London for an important meeting and thought the best way was via the sleeper service to minimise travel time. The evening meal was reasonably good but despite pre paying was given a bill, when I told staff I'd paid at booking I was abruptly asked to prove it as they had no record... More

We have used this service several times in the sleeper couchettes .This time we boarded the highland line which goes to Fortwilliam I think. It is now owned by a private company who have plans to upgrade it. Certainly some of that is apparent. This is now a USB charging socket in the cabins.Towels are provided as is an amenity... More

This is just the regular passenger train but it's so much cheaper then the Jacobite one. Book early for the best prices, I got a return from Fort William to Mallaig for £6.60!! Reserved seats and a trolley on board for drinks and snacks. The left side is the best for the views and they are spectacular. The viaduct and... More

We travelled from Glasgow to our hotel in Fort William and then later in the week completed the journey from Fort William to Mallaig. At this time of the year the Jacobite Steam train does not run so we did the FW to Mallaig part by regular train (The views are the same and it's MUCH cheaper). It really is... More

The West Highland line runs from Mallaig, through Fort William to Glasgow. There's also a branch from Crianlarich to Oban. There are 3 trains per day that complete the 5.5 hour journey al the way from Mallaig to Glasgow. We travelled from Fort William to Glasgow on board the 11:40 on a cold November Tuesday. We didn't have any seat... More

Other reviewers here spell out all the amazing views to thrill you on this trip. This is a world class journey. From Glasgow our train comprised 4 coaches, 2 for Oban and 2 for Mallaig, splitting at Crianlarich. Amazing vistas on both sides but especially the left, west-facing. Good trolley service between Glasgow and Fort William or bring your own.... More

After boarding at Glasgow Queen Street, the train left and wends its way along the northern shore of the Firth of Clyde before diverting north through unspoiled countryside towards Arrochar and onwards to Crianlarich. Just one word of advice, make sure you are on the right part of the train before it divides at Crianlarich - and continues West towards... More

... If so, I have yet to find it. The whole journey is fantastic, from Glasgow to Mallaig. I don't understand why its not a tourist must in its own right. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the Alps ... none compare. The west HIghland line is on our doorstep and yet, most Brits have never taken it. Oh how much we... More
