I visited Eilean Donan castle as part of a day tour to the Isle of Skye. The castle is visually stunning, even on overcast and rainy days. Photography is not allowed inside the castle, but photos of the grounds and surrounding area is fine. The...More

This is a picturesque and scenic castle with opportunities to view it from multiple distant vantage points. I agree with other reviewers that this castle could be appreciated from the outside only with a stop at the lovely gift shop.

Eilean Donan Castle is a spectacular sight as you arrive, we were parked in the motor home section which gave us plenty of room, lovely walk when we could have taken plenty of photos and been on our way but so glad we bought a...More

Very beatiful landscape and castle, however its quality does down once you cross its doors. Very well conserved, but small and without enough information inside. No pictures allowed as descendants still live there. In general, not worth paying the ticket fee

Visited here with my husband whilst on holiday. I’ve wanted to visit here for years and I wasn’t disappointed. Set in stunning breath taking scenery. It’s worth going early so you have time to wander and take in all the sights. The on site shop...More

Even though it was raining, it was worth persevering with this visit. The crowded car park was well managed by the charming parking director. All staff were friendly and informative. Great gift shop also with lots of choices.

I wanted to visit this castle as soon as I landed in Scotland. I wasn’t disappointed once I finally got there. The walk up to the castle was beautiful! Once up there it was a self guided tour of the grounds. The castle had been...More

Tremendous amount of interesting history all in a beautiful setting. Excellent facilities in the visitor centre with a very good cafe. One disappointment was that no photography was allowed inside the castle.

This is a great place for a photo, in any weather. The history is worth checking out. If Rick Steve's featured it on the cover of his book, it's worth seeing.

There is a Citylink bus from Fort William to Portree (on the Isle of Skye). It appears to stop at Dornie which is a short walk to the castle. The bus journey from FW to Dornie takes about 1.1/2hrs. Check Citylink website for... More

To be honest Katie - the best photos of the castle are taken from outside of the grounds - ie the car park and surrounding shoreline. You will get some stunning shots. I don't think there are any car park barriers after... More
