The site is closed for the season, so we were not able to access the indoor rooms during our recent visit. However, it was possible to walk all around and inside the ruins. It's a beautiful place - whether open or closed. A lovely place for a picnic and for photographs.

This site is a short drive from Elgin on the road to Lossiemouth and well worth visiting if you are in the area. It is not visible from the main road, but it is a short flat walk from the car park to the castle grounds. Maintenance work is in progress on the palace. There are good information boards positioned... More

I called in here after visiting Elgin Cathedral. The Palace is about 5 minutes drive and has a small car park attached. The curator (staff? attendant? not sure of the right word!) was extremely helpful and gave me some useful tips when visiting, I wouldn't have found the basement if he hadn't pointed it out! The tower remains are very... More

This near ruin is an excellent example of an early Scottish Political Power House, The Bishops of Moray and an understanding of how the landscape has changed via info boards. The Palace ruin is on raised ground and can be easy walked around access to a tower can be obtained. Approach Roads are single track with passing places, but in... More

Almost 500 years old , it was once the home of the Bishops of Moray, climb David's tower it is well worth the effort for the Views over Moray and Lossiemouth, you can also descend the steps and look around the cellars which are pretty well preserved. It is a short flattish walk from the car park to the Palace... More

Brilliant place, very atmospheric. Even my kids (6 and 10) loved it and were really interested. Guide at the entrance was very nice and knowledgeable. This was my favourite place we visited all holiday.

This ruin was linked in with elgin cathedral as i Heard them recommending each other. Lovely ruin with beautiful views of the countryside. The tower where you could get all the way to the top had some wonderful views, from the inside and out. There was good information about the castle too. I would definitely go back and visit, recommend... More

One of our hidden gems. Not visible from the main road do takes some finding. A very impressive setting and good interpretative boards.

This was a delightful stop during a sunny afternoon. You do, however, need some sun to enjoy this properly. This was a bishop;s palace with a good deal of history attached and helpful information boards positioned round at strategic points. A climb up the main tower is rewarded with an excellent view.
