Visited in May and thought the views were stunning. Noticed lots of glass on the floor near the base of the tower but didn't think much of it. The glass is also on the walls of the tower so if you decide to climb it to look inside you will slide your fingers. Take care!

I got a bus from Ayr, to nearest place I could, and walked down by the shore, enjoyed the view. Lots of birds and wildlife. Quite happily picked up pebbles and bright yellow periwinkle shells, and just enjoyed Greenan Beach abd the fresh sea air. The ruins of the castle are in splendid view at all times, unfortunately didn't have time to walk all the way upto the castle, but will another time. Stopped off on the bus back to Ayr for a delicious lunch at Rozelle House tea rooms, another recommendation for great, fresh, home cooked food

A great day at the beach. We divided our day between beach-combing in the vicinity of Greenan Castle and doing the same along the Esplanade in Ayr itself. The boys loved scouring the beach for shells and sea glass, and they left with many treasures. The castle itself makes for a nice backdrop. It is bricked up, so you can’t get into it, but it makes for great pictures. The only downside of the day, we’re the dead birds along the beach. Avian flu wasn’t something that we were aware of. It’s not a thing in Canada, as far as I’m aware…

What a nice little area. Very scenic and calming. Really enjoyed the view of the sea and th ruins themselves are interesting to observe. No direct access in though as its private property. Still, very good. They even have 5G which is great (Craig Tara Holiday Park barely has Wifi).

I have visited Greenan Castle on every trip to Scotland now for several years. I have walked around it, climbed inside it, and wandered the shore below its ruined walls. I stand and let my imagination take me back to the ancient past, to what might have happened here. The castle itself was built in 1603 on top of an iron age fort which many now believe to have been an Arthurian stronghold, possible even Camelot. I will leave it to you who visit it to decide for yourself. I myself believe Arthur to have been a 6th century Scot. Besides, to visit the castle is to see magnificent views.

Lovely little castle of the cliff edge overlooking the greenan shores and surrounding area. Night time brings many people to the castle for other adventures not related to sight seeing!

Greenan Castle looks great in the background of photos, best accessed from Greenan Beach but up close there isn't much to see and sits in a precariuos position. A hangout for local youths.

This tower house is nothing more than ruins now. It seems to sit precarious on the edge of the cliff.
The castle is right on the beach, where there's also a cars walk away. park about 5 minute. If you're anywhere near Ayr, it's picture perfect for amazing photo ops, go see it before it falls off the cliff.

This is a good walk from the promenade at Ayr, you can see the castle to the south from Ayr beach . It's an easy walk along by the beach and when you get to the base of the castle on the beach then walk further round to the very nice bay just by the castle. You can then walk up the hill to the castle. You can't enter the castle BUT the view is excellent into Ayr town and right round to the small bay to the south. Great place for a picnic as is the bay. If you take the beach I'd be a bit careful of the tides albeit we went to the castle at low tide so not sure how far it comes up. In any case there is a path from the beach to a road where you can get back to Ayr promenade. This is a good walk and picnic spot (for adults). One warning the castle is at the top of a cliff and as such could be dangerous for children as there are no fences.

Free, just a ruin small path not maintained to get there, can be precarious. Dunure castle along the coast much better if you like ruins,
