Nice sized theater with excellent shows

Have been to two shows here. Excellent productions both times. Friendly staff and very helpful. Great thing to add to a busy Dublin visit to enjoy and relax in the evening.

Though it is a historic building the seats were very comfortable. I saw Private Lives. Sets well done, acoustics good, and enjoyable evening. They have pay parking. Also have a nice bar.

We had an entertaining evening at a performance of Noel Coward's Private Lives. The play has aged well and was enjoyed enormously by the whole audience. The production deserves to be a success.

I love the Gate and I come here regularly ... it never disappoints. I went to see Private Lives last night and as you'd expect from the Gate it's an excellent production. I'd also seen the play at the Gate some years ago with Stephen Brennan and Paris Jefferson ( and beautiful clothes from Peter O Brien) and that was... More

Went to see the Heiress at the Gate in January. The staff manage the whole entrance very well. The theatre is very comfortable and elegant. The play was outstanding. Well worth a visit

Dublin has two major theatres, the Abbey concentrating mainly on Irish drama and the Gate Theatre on contemporary plays and playwrights. In particular, the Gate has over the years given particular concentration to Beckett, Friel and Pinter. One is rarely disappointed with a Gate production - it employs the best stage designers, directors and actors. It is a small, intimate... More

I attended "The Heiress" here with a friend a few days ago. The Gate theatre itself is a beautiful theatre although the seats are narrow compared other Dublin theatres and getting into your seat past other patrons can be more challenging. The production was most excellent but this review is about the theatre so I'll not say more about the... More

Stayed across the road at the conveniently located Cassidy's Hotel and spied a local production of 'The Heiress' playing at this historic theatre. It seems that I was meant to see it, having scored the last seat that night in what seemed to be a sellout season. It was a superb production all round, perfectly cast and constructed. If this... The Gate Theatre was a fabulous way to spend a afternoon. The show we saw was spectacular!! I had just been in Manhattan NYC and I saw a broadway show and I can say the performance here was much better...or at least the particular show I saw was better than the one I saw on broadway for a fraction of... If you love theatre, then you must go to the Gate regardless of what's on just to experience this historic space. It's an oddly shaped space with a low proscenium ceiling and terrible sightlines but if the actors are good enough, you'll forget that you can't always see them and have a good time.
