Disgraceful value for money
Feb 2018 • Friends
My husband and his elderly neighbour went in after cancer treatment as they had not eaten all day. It was about 5:30 on Thursday 22/2/2018. They ordered lamb and this is what arrived on their plate- two teabag size portions of lamb, 7 peas, two small onions and an equally small size potato, For this privilege they paid 29.95 euro. Is this not a rip off or what? suffice to say we will not be returning to this restaurant as we used to enjoy a meal here in the past.

It's did exactly what was needed

Food good ..friendly staff .. reasonably priced .. handy just across the road from the main Galway hospital entrance
.. it has privacy planting which is good for the smokers and people having a pint out front
Not somewhere you'd go for a night out
Functional for food etc

Went here this evening and the food was fabulous. Waitress was extremely attentive, and pleasant. Food was excellent value for money, and the pub has a lovely vibe. As a woman on my own, I wouldn't normally go to a pub by myself but I felt more than comfortable here. They even have board games like scrabble for you to play, which is a nice, quirky touch. Couldn't fault this place. Excellent pub grub at a great price. You should go here, you won't go wrong!

Overrated
Had Sunday lunch here with my family and a family member who joined us from a hospital stay. The location was excellent but the food and service in particular were not up to scratch. I asked for my steak sandwich without mushrooms and ordered a bottle of the French sauvignon blanc. My steak sandwich arrived with more mushrooms than meat. We were given the Chilean daub blanc without comment or apology. My dad ordered the profiteroles for pud while my mother and I both favoured the rear and almond tart. 3 tarts arrived! I ordered an espresso which never arrived. By this stage the sunday lunch rush was over. The food was average at best but we didn't mind. However there can be NO EXCUSE for bad service. It costs nothing to listen smile and to check with your customers that everything is ok and that they are having a good experience. The saving grace of this premises is its proximity to the hospital. Not a dining experience I wish to replicate any time soon.

Beers and laughs
Great spot, with great beer selection, even a giant screen for sports... Food served all day from morning till half nine. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere was a mix of locals and students, well worth a visit!! Definitely try the craft beer range!!

Hospital Visit To My Sister
Feb 2015 • Family
We ate brunch at the Scholars Rest yesterday. I was hoping they would serve carvery but they only had pork on the menu which I am allergic to. I had a Caesar salad which was very nice but perhaps they could use some mixed salad leaves in the future. Reasonably priced, nice surroundings and ideally located for UHG (University Hospital Galway) and NUI. Staff were very friendly.

11euro for salad and hummus
Ate here recently and was shocked at the price of the hummus salad. A ramekin of hummus with mixed leaves (no pickled cabbage or scallions as described). The burgers and the sandwiches containing several proteins cost roughly half the price. I don't know where the Scholars Rest are buying their chick peas and tahini but their pricing is way off. The veggie burger has more elements than the 'energy salad' and is a fraction of the price. Very disappointed and was patronised by staff when I mentioned this issue at the till

Within walking distance of the NUI. Good food, and really excellent beer options. Try the Galway Bay Brewery options - they are fantastic.
