The ruins are now part of a golf course and the castle 's portal has been closed to make room for a corrugated iron shelter where the course's lawn mower are likely kept. Despite the surprising adaptation, the ruins are worth a look.

We needed lunch and it all looked OK and it was. Fresh sandwiches were produced and a bit of craic from the two ladies looking after the bar. Unfortunately we did not have time to test out the nine hole course around the ruined castle but we will definitely be back..

Its a great place to play, not as easy as it looks. The views are amazing. Lacks the space for 18 holes which is a real shame. It was played by Tom Coyne and mentioned in his book -A Course called Ireland. It is well worth playing, just off the road between Ballybunion and Tralee.

Ballyheigue is about 10 miles north ofTralee. Please relocate marker to the village at the north of trade bay. The castle is of little interest and not really a tourist attraction, however it is visually attractive from a distance.
