After reading other reviews, I decided to wait to buy silver gifts until I got to Kilkenny and could visit Des's shop. What a find and what a charming talented silversmith! He happily will show you how his items are created, and absolutely no pressure will he put on you to purchase. I bought several gifts and a very special... More

I bought some daisy stud earrings in 1997 and they have been favourites of mine ever since. Last year I lost one. However I still had the small card that Mr Byrne signs and gives you with your purchase and last week I rang him up to ask if he could make me a replacement. His response was amazing. He... More

Based on other reviews and sought out the shop. The silversmith, Des, was a delight. He has an array of items, both traditional and contemporary. He said that current preference is for traditional items. But we preferred the unusual contemporary items from the Kilkenny Design School. We were on the verge of purchasing a ring and he told us to... More

My daughter really wanted a necklace accompanied by a Celtic pendant but everywhere we looked there was the same mass produced pendants and necklaces. I looked on TA and found this wonderful hidden gem. The owner and master silver smith (gold smith as well) Desmond A Byrne was just so informative and helpful. We explained what we were looking for... More

My husband met Desmond A. Byrne (DAB) during a trip to Ireland 2 years ago and he said "when we go to Ireland together, you must meet him". I had the pleasure of doing just that last fall. Mr. Byrne is a kind man and I could have easily spent hours just talking to him/learning about the craft from him.... More

We wandered in out of curiosity and wound up staying and talking for an hour or so! Very nice folks and really interesting jewelry designs. Could have stayed and talked all day.

We made a motorbike Tour and stay 3 days in Kilkenny. On the Second day our Friends found the Shop from Desmond A Byrne. He told them many about his job. After we entered the shop, he shows us some of his works. Without any hint to buy or advertising to his products. In the way he speak, we know... More

I just happened upon the Kilkenny Handwrought Silver located in one of the courtyards behind the Kilkenny Design Center. I was the only one in the shop at the time, and the owner, I believe nearly 80 spent approximately 30 minutes with me telling me all about silver, gold and platinum. It was so informative. I was so hoping he... More

I met Desmond Byrne in April 2015, a fascinating guy. He took a long time explaining the intricate work he does. Beautiful workmanship, and good prices.
