St John's Castle

Enjoyed St John's Castle and in particular the interactive screens, however the running presentations were loud and tended to drown out the other exhibits

You get the sense of scale in terms of both size and time when visiting this castle. Lots of steps. Absolutely amazing how old this site is. Lots of video presentations and historical info.

The castle is beautiful, but overall this is all the city centre really has to offer. Limerick is a good base to see things outside the city , but if ever return to this part of Ireland again I think I would stay in adare. To me the areas around the castle didn't feel safe as we had dinner and... More

Well organized, informative, and we got to decompress a bit from a week in Killarney before heading to Normandy.

This is a self guided tour and it is very in-depth and cool. Tons of history and really great access to the interior and exterior of the castle.

Visited in November. Do allow plenty of time as there is a lot of information to absorb. From videos to murals to interactive displays, King John's Castle has it all! A self-guided tour is best as it allows you time to pause and read, if you wish, or to move on to the next items. Outside, various trades are reenacted,... More

We visited the castle one morning for 90 minutes but you really need twice as long to do see everything properly. They have done a good job in the way all of the history and information has been laid out with photo drawings writings and videos. You could even pose as a castle guard in uniform. After getting all of... More

Definitely take the short stroll to the castle from the centre of the city. Lovely walk along the river - well signposted. Interactive exhibits and loads to see and do. Make sure you go up the 2 towers as the views are fantastic.

We couldn't decide what to do in Limerick, and our hotel recommended the castle to satisfy our dose of adventure for the city. Touring the place can easily take several hours if you're a history buff like us and read / watch all the information presented to you. The place really caught and kept out attention, and even our four... More
