My husband and I took an overnight flight from Toronto to Dublin, arriving around 5am local time. We went through customs, got our bags, rented a car, and drive to Knocknarea, arriving around 10am after stopping for breakfast. There were two other cars in the carpark near Primrose Grange when we got there. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday morning... More

If you are in Sligo and don't go for a hike here, you're missing out. I hiked up the Strandhill steps side and down the easier path to the car park. It was a beautiful day and I will not forget it. Remember to bring a rock with you from the path to the cairn at the top. The view... More

Knocknarea offers a great hike with spectacular views of the surrounding area once you reach the top and along the route. 2 options, one is an easy hike from the carpark side and the other is a moderate hike from the Strandhill side, very well developed and great the way they used timber railway sleepers which fit in very well... It is a bit of a hike all the way up, but nothing bearable. I would recommend it to anyone really, just take your time. Lots of family's with small children too. View is amazing, definitely worth the walk. We left car to the car park, where the main walk to up starts, but I think there was possibility to... More

Easy climb which even young children can manage. Stunning views all along the route and breathtaking once you reach the top.

A nice hillside walk, not too steep and not a difficult walk. The 360 views at the top are worth it.

Enjoyed walking to the top, learning about the history and seeing beautiful view. This is popular in the area so you wont be alone, especially on a beautiful day. The path is clearly marked and not too difficult, although I would probably not do this on a rainy day as I feel it would be slippery. The history is very... More

Walked this with two boys, 9 and 6. Beautiful views on a clear day. Not too long or too hard to walk. Pity about those who choose to ignore the signs and show no respect by climbing on the cairn. Well worth a visit. Tea shop at the bottom.

It is really worth the effort to climb this to see Maeve's tomb and the spectacular views of the coastline and the surrounding mountains. It is not too difficult even if you are not used to doing much climbing but a good pair of shoes is essential.
