The welcome at reception was excellent and the building is well worth exploring. The restoration, whilst controversial, is first class, although there were a few display cases with no accompanying explanation. Admission is, we think, cheap and is free with an English Heritage card. We also enjoyed a light lunch in what they call a "Tea Room". We also recommend the... More

Brilliant location, great place to visit if you have a few hours to spend getting lost in the forest and entering into the castle. The walled gardens are great - nice walk to them through the forest. The walled gardens and the castle are seperate - and you need to pay to visit both. If you visit the walled gardens... More

We always visit Tintern when really come to Wexford. It's a beaufully kept monument to days gone by. Obviously the restoration is sympathetic to the period it was built, but more obviously it's safer now than back then. Lots of nice walks, some shaded, some very steep, so need strong knees. It's always worth a walk up to the gardens... More

Really unmissable stop on Ring of Hook. Fascinating history and beautiful location. Make time to visit the adjoining walled gardens and visit the great tea shop after a walk around the forest paths

This place is so beautiful! The abbey is gorgeous. Its a partially ruined building, which is perched on a hill & overlooks a tidal creek. The estate has a network of really well maintained paths which allow you to walk the grounds, which are gorgeous. We walked a 2 mile loop along the river & through the bluebell wood. We... More

We passed Tintern on our way to Saltmills and really glad we stopped off. Historically fascinating and lovely gardens. We didn't get to see everything as weather was bad and we were unprepared so would love to visit again next time we are in the area. Well worth a visit .

On vacation in Wexford needed to find an activity that was reasonably priced and found that tintern abbey has lovely walks that you can do for free! We did not visit the abbey itself as we were pushed for time but I have to say it's a beautiful place surrounded by lush nature! We had a delightful walk that was... More

Picked up a Hook Peninsula guide and followed the route around the Hook, arriving at Tintern Abbey early in the afternoon. We have to go back, to see inside the Abbey ; we spend so much time enjoying the Colclough walled garden that we only left time to sample a delicious warming bowl of soup at the Tintern Abbey tea... Tintern Abbey is stunning! Learn where "hook or crook" originated from the tour of the Abbey. Take a walk in the grounds over bridges, through the beautiful village of Saltmills or stroll around the beautifully restored walled gardens, laden with fruit, veg and borders of beautiful flowers. Enjoy good coffee and homemade cakes from Hamish in the coffee shop! His Moroccan... More
