Next to the city of Rehovot's Science Park, on Kibbutz Hill, stands the Ayalon Institute, which tells one of the fascinating and mysterious stories in the history of the struggle for the establishment of the State of Israel. Here, beneath the ground, and right under the nose of the British, a factory was created for the production of 9mm bullets for the Sten submachine gun. The factory is hidden below the ground and operated under complete secrecy from 1945 until 1948.

The story of this factory, built within earshot of the British forces is absolutely awe-inspiring and amazing. It was one of the best parts of our trip. Really - don't miss it!

It would definitely be a good idea to do the trips on separate days. For the Ayalon institute in Rehovot you have to ring up beforehand in order to join any tour. Do a google search, find their site (in English) and book... More
