We love visiting Ripon and the Cathedral is a must for a visit. It is free to go inside and a voluntary donation is requested. There is an information sheet you can carry around so you don't miss the important things and a visit to the crypt is a must if you can manage the steep steps. There is so... More

i have just returned from a short break in yorkshire, we were based in harrogate, so on thursday, we decided to spend the day in ripon, we had a look around the town and visited the shops and market, before going to look round the cathedral, we got a nice surprise when we arrived , we were told that a... We parked in the town centre carpark and followed the signs for the short walk to the Cathedral. We were totally unprepared for the view as we came round the corner of a high old wall and had our first glimpse of thd Cathedral. We were simply dumbstruck. For such a small town to have such a magnificent Cathedral church... More

Typical British cathedral and very well maintained. They were just clearing up from a festival so there was a lot of clutter around with people all over the place which I'm sure is unusual. Organ and the choir stalls were very impressive. The museum upstairs was very interesting, especially the Richard 3 banner. Entrance was by donation but you had... More

Cathedral with charm and quirky masonry if you are into finding hidden treasures of the past that mason put into their work. Went on a lovely autumn day and the colours of the building were amplified by the sunshine through the various windows. If you are not too sure about anything ask the people in blue gowns they are volunteers... More

Called in for a morning in Ripon to see cathedral. Warmly welcomed offered a laminated guide to borrow, but I bought a good colour guide for £2 from a delightful lady on duty at the entrance. This cathedral appreciates a donation but does not charge for entry. Interesting features, including a tiny ancient crypt and upstairs treasury (although we could... More

It s an amazing building steeped in history, although activites around us, moving furniture ,trees and various other things like a shopping trolley did little to add to what should have been truly enjoyabe visit in this magnificent building.

Very interesting information from one of the guides who we overheard giving details about the carving in the choir stalls etc. Otherwise when we visited there was an art exhibition which surrounded all the walls. A bit of an odd mix and we didn't get the "feel" that you often get when you walk into an old cathedral because of... More
