Due to the local building stone, this is very different in colour to those of York, Winchester etc. However it is bright and cheery inside. The cathedral was badly damaged during WWII and is still being renovated. In doing so they are mixing the old with the new and so the stained glass windows, tapestries etc are weird mix but,... The Cathedral has an open, friendly atmosphere with a feeling of spaciousness. It is obviously working well for and with the community and caring for an impressive and interesting building with some beautiful windows and decoration. Look above your head before you enter the Chapter.

Recent improvements to local landscaping and highway alterations mean that the Cathedral is not as hidden or difficult to get to as it once was so if you are passing, take a look

dating back to the 1450's .....magnificent Gothic church....restored in Victorian times ....badly damaged by the blitz in WW2.....featured in controversial computer game in the 90's.....worth an hour or two of anyone's time.

It was great to see the new organ in this cathedral. The organ is the king of all musical instruments. It would be great to visit this cathedral again and listen to some organ music one day.

My wife and I needed to kill some time in Manchester and decided to finally go inside the cathedral, it's like a mini version of the Liverpool Anglican cathedral, it says inside that it costs £2800 a day to run it , may I suggest you turn the heating down? You'll save a fortune

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent visit. Many of our visitors comment on how lovely and warm the church is despite the really cold January temperatures and also worry about our heating costs. In 2013 the underfloor heating was replaced with new ground source heat pumps which use natural energy stored in the earth to heat and cool... More

The cathedral is interesting, but visit the medieval bridge next door with the bookshop for the cathedral. Free tea and coffee fascinating bridge and great customer service.

Thank you for your comments which I will pass on to Sue and Penny who run the St Denys Bookshop. We are delighted that you took the time to visit Hanging Bridge, a Scheduled Ancient Monument which has been part of the Manchester landscape since the early 15th century. More

It's a lovely building, both outside and inside and there's lots of signs and boards to give you information about its history. Love the stained glass windows and some beautiful flowers even in the cold weather outside in its gardens!
