This neo-Gothic masterpiece was designed by Alfred Waterhouse and completed in 1887. At the front main entrance sits a statue of the Roman Governor, Agricola, founder of the original fort of Mamuciam, from which the city began. The building dominates Albert Square.

The town hall sits on Albert square and is where the giant Santa sits during the Christmas market. The hall seemed to be closed to the public for the time being although I suppose the vast amount of people would probably become uncontrollable.

Well worth a look round as the inside of the building will take your breath away. The Christmas markets are on so you can shop and view at the same time. One not to miss.

Well worth a visit both to see from the outside and the inside - a beautiful building and at the moment there is a huge Santa Claus at the front ready for the Manchester Xmas market which opens later on in November.

We booked a table for lunch and were not disappointed. Nice food in lovely surroundings, attentive service and very reasonable pricing. Made a change from the usual bars or cafes and would go back without hesitation!

Helen, have a look for the Manchester walks web site in the Internet, next visit is due December 7th at 6.30 for the town hall.
