We enjoyed the work of the man that created the Statue of Liberty. We had no idea Colmar was the home to Bartholdi or of his significance to American history. He was an incredible artist in large format sculptures.

We had a great time here. I did not know that sculptors made models before starting a piece. We saw the many models Bartholdi did before deciding on the final one for the Statue of Liberty. Also saw other statues he was famous for.

Just bumbling along, and stumbled across this museum, which was about to close. The curator said we could visit the 2nd floor only! Only to find all the artefacts to the statue of liberty! What a great place. Thank you.

This is a gem of a museum; don't miss it in Colmar where Auguste Bertoldi was born in 1834 and frequently returned to. There are models of his various works, including his trial models as he conceptualized the Statue of Liberty envisioned as Liberty Enlightening...More

Bartholdi had many talents including his metalurgy and skill as an architect. The house and museum give insight into his character and skill.
