Visited it a few times, and will continue to do so

Colmar is one of my favourite towns in Europe and this museum is worth a visit for the triptych alone. Also, has numerous objets d'art from the region.

Look very modern, it's quite unlucky for me to have not enough to spend in the museum as I had to catch the train to somewhere else.

This museum, based in an old monastery, features art produced in an around Colmar - by local and visiting artists (for example, there's a Picasso and Monet there from the time they "summered" there) But the real star is the Retable - or Altar piece - of Issenheim. Now I'm neither particularly arty or religious, but it is hard not... More

Collection has items you won't find elsewhere. The Isenheim Altarpiece is very impressive. Display of some items could be improved (dark or blinding light). In winter, much of the museum is very chilly so keep your coat on! Guided audio tour included in price of admission in many languages. It is very good. Cafe is lovely.

You will come for the altar. It is dissassembled to allow you to see all parts of it during one visit. The former chapel where it is on display is not heated. Therefore be prepared for a cold climate during wintertime. The audioguide included in the entrance fee is a big help to understand the symbolic part of the depiction.... More

Very nice museum with well-done displays and English for those who need it. It gave a good overview of the time line of local history.

My expectations were so high that I wondered if any museum could achieve them. Musee Unterliinden exceeded them. I never visited the original structure, so can only say that the architecture of the remodeled museum is exceptional. It preserves the beauty of the original cloister and unites it with both the expanded buildings and the streets outside. The Isenheim Altarpiece... More

This is one of the most incredible museums I have ever seen. To say it is a religioius art museum is to sell it short. It is an astounding colleciton of paintings over 500 years old. The colors are so brilliant, you could believe that they were painted yesterday. I cannot more highly recommend it. Fabulous. I have added several... More

The Altarpiece is a reason to visit Colmar, along with the town itself - I was thrilled to see it presented with such care and accessibility. Just beautiful.

The museum highlight is clearly the Isenheim altar piece. But don't scurry straight there as there are many other treasures in the preceding (and succeeding) rooms and levels. The altar piece is beautifully displayed and there is bench seating to enable you to take it all in. The museum is a real rabbit warren of rooms and levels and we... More
