This relatively new, maritime museum has the potential to grow into something even better than what it is, and that appears to be happening. The ship models and exhibits were interesting, kids seemed to find these interesting. They're still building out the museum, so it will get better with time. Giftshop and bathrooms on site as well. It's in northern Bordeaux away from the touristy crowds which is nice.

Good museum , quite a lot to see, as there are permanent and temporary displays. Visited as part of our City pass, shop a bit pricey though.

As a family overall we enjoyed our experience but feel there could be more opportunity for interaction. It was great to see British naval history as well as the Statue of Liberty 🗽. This is a mini statue and it tells you where there are other statues of Liberty including an additional one in Bordeaux. The museum doesn’t make use of all its space (the top floor doesn't hold much information but would hope this would change over time. This is not for younger children because there are no opportunities to experience exhibits just read them. There are also art exhibits but one particular statue with red paint on unnerved our 12 year old. It felt odd and out of place. Although a lot of the information is translated into English there are a number of exhibits just in French.

We went to this new museum because we are interested in maritime history. For a brand new museum, this was very disappointing in its content and execution. The exhibit panels were lackluster and didn't include very much depth of content. The model ships on display were of average to poor quality and didn't appear to have been cleaned before display.
We had a Bordeaux CityPass, so this was free for us to enter. I would have been sorely disappointed if I had paid 14 euros for admission.
If you are in the neighborhood, interested in ships and navigation and you have a pass, I would say go if you have time. A big disappointment, especially when compared to the nearby Cite du Vin wine museum, which was a highlight of our stay in Bordeaux.

Two floors of mainly model ships combined with lots of historic facts. I was a little bit underwhelmed. I guess I had expected more from a brand new museum...

Has an imposing entrance. New feel to the whole place. Located in an area of Bordeaux which is undergoing refurbishment. Can park easily around the museum for free. Has a small shop selling posters, cards etc. No cafe. Toilets spotless. Most of the model boats are suspended from the ceiling which makes for an attractive display, but for a model enthusiast it is annoying because you can't look at them close up. When I was there the museum was virtually empty. Has some boats and small submarines which have seen active service. Powerful display of photographs of migrants landing in flimsy rubber boats. Quite a lot of explanation plaques are in English although some are on the walls behind exhibits written too small to be read easily.

Near Cite Du Vin, behind Halle de Bacalon and five minute walk. Just opened, small bits of wall not yet plastered, but amazing displays of all sizes of model boats telling the history of seafaring (and why we do it) including a model 1m x 1.5m made entirely of matchsticks up to a full size thai fishing boat and a video of how it was made - very interesting. Also a very challenging exhibition on sea borne refugees through the centuries reminding us we all came from somewhere else - one way or another!
The building also hosts visiting exhibitions on another floor (cartoon drawings) and your free pass lets you it to one, or the other, with the option to pay and do both.
Turns out this museum was the nearest I was getting to a submarine (1 person one) that day, having failed to find the entrance tho the Base Sous Marine!
