to understand Bordeaux it is good the walk the smaller streets and see the remainders of the town wll and fortresses like this one. Interesting entrance to the pedestrian area

It's a beautiful clock tower to see and to photograph. I believe you can go up it but as we were recovering from the Pey Berland stairs, we decided to give it a miss.

This is worth checking out. Spectacular architecture which leads into lovely streets. Worth a wander to see this.

At the gateway entrance this is a well preserved piece of history, reconstructed from the demolition of the belfry of the 15 century hotel de ville

I was awestruck by this historic belfry that is set in the 13thC city wall. The bell is estimated to weigh almost 800kg and is two metres tall and wide. Although rarely rung, it marks the anniversary of the 1944 liberation of Bordeaux in August....More

Shown on the bus tours - then went back on foot for closer look. It's all so beautiful. Lots of little streets off to explore as well.
