When I first moved to Clermont Ferrand this was one of the first sited I visited. The bottom is reachable by car only, I think, and after there is option to hike or to take small train. I have to admit I wanteded to hike second time but I was fully pregnant and it was a bit too intense; plus... More

It is one of the most beautiful views of France! You go to the top of the mountain by a confortable train and there, besides the fantastic view and tracks, you have restaurants, souvenir boutique and cafes.

This was supposed to be the highlight of our trip to France but on the day in question the cloud cover was 100% and visibility at the top was down to about 30m. We walked up from the car-park at the col and had a coffee in the restaurant, peered through the mist at the Temple of Apollo and then... More

Some of our party walked up and some took the train. It worked well, driving the walkers to the Chemin des Muletiers car park, dropping them off and then returning to the Panoramique des Domes complex for the train. The trains departed at 40 minute intervals and with a 20 minute wait for the next departure and a 20 minute... More

Took the easy option and went up on the first train at 09:40. Breakfast was on the balcony after walking around the summit. Paragliders kept us entertained over our Belgian waffles and coffee.

Unfortunately the Roman ruins were under repair when I visited, but I enjoyed the view and seeing the paragliders taking off.

We parked at the bottom and slogged up the track to the summit, past the 2 restaurants at the bottom and crossing the rail track. It was 45mins up 30 mins down. While cloud cover meant the horizon was alp free we still had a great view of the surrounding hills used in tourist adds and Volvic commercials. Fleece and... More

Great views from the top. Interesting ruins and a restaurant to grab a drink or a bite to eat. Train is easily accessible with young child in pram. Very clean and a good day out.

An enjoyable train ride to the top of the volcano to take in the amazing views. Nice to sit and watch people paragliding off the side of the mountain plus there is a Roman temple and small informative museum at the top to visit.
