As forests go, I was not that enchanted with Broceliande. In the past it was a huge forest, but now it is mostly in private ownership and a mere shadow of its former self. If you like to camp, there are numerous campgrounds and hiking paths, but in March the ground is still too wet and muddy for any serious hiking.

A beautiful forest in which to spend anything from an hour to a whole day. Way marks were a little erratic, but the paths were well trodden and easy to follow. Fell in love with the Mirror Lake and were visiting at just the right time for the Autumn colours. Enchanting.

Very nice to walk through the enchanted and isolated forest especially on hot summer days. If you like mythology and fairy tales, then you should come here.

I fell in love with this region in 2002, whilst on holiday in the area. I moved over to live here in 2005, and without doubt the best thing I have done in a long, long while. You can visit the Forest of Brocéliande and yet never find the real heart of the region. For that it takes a little time to slow down, experience the sounds of the forests and the ethereal realms. I am sure Tolkien had Brocéliande in mind when he wrote about the forest of Lothlórien in Lord of the Rings, you may even catch a glimpse of Galadriel, or at least Fée Morgaine out of the corner of your eye, if you are up early enough. Beautiful, in full bloom in summer, magical in early autumn, with the "brahm" of the stags echoing out over the misty valleys, but every season has it's attractions. There are a myriad of things to do from horse riding, walking, hiking, canoeing and kayaking, to less sportive things like sampling the crepes at the Creperie of the Porche in Paimpont. Sample also the local beers from the Lancelot Brewery, my prefered is their Telenn Du or black beer, made with blé noir. Lancelot also has a loo kin at the Chateau de Comper, with it's exhibitions and animations of Arturian legends. In Summer there are craft fairs, jousting and costumed festivals with music and mock battles, storytelling and archery. I hope that this gives you an inkling of why I found it an irresistable call, I hope that you come and see for yourselves.
