Great finds, but not so much in August. This is only a good market, no clothes or household items. The majority of the sellers are on vacation. A lot of empty spots. We should have gone in July. Great food tho.

We visited with our children. It’s a large foodie market. We enjoyed looking at the food, it’s in a nice area of the city and enjoyed the walk from Les Champs Libres which is a great modern car park, suitable for vans/ large cars. I would advise against taking a buggy and only some areas are wheelchair accessible as the meat and cheese are inside up some steps.

One of the great outdoor markets. If you are there on a Saturday it is a must. Plan to buy your picnic. It is almost entirely locals buying their fresh foods for the week, but the vendors were welcoming to tourists and quick to use their English if needed. The cheese stalls are fantastic as are the charcuterie stalls. It is also a good place to buy cuisine souvenirs like special spices or fois gras.

By nature markets attract crowds but at this one the "locals" outnumbered us tourists. The usual wide variety of items on display and an Ideal place for topping up on our fruit supply.
When we were there a major revamp was being completed on one of the covered sections making it more crowded and therefore more difficult to walk around.

We were in Rennes on a Saturday morning after a visit to Mont St Michel and prior to flying to London.

We walked around the historic old town and paid a visit to the Saturday market at Marche des Lices. There were plenty of vendors selling fruits, vegetables, wines, cheese - basically everything.

It also gave us an opportunity to try the famous Galette Saucisse (Sausage Crepe) for 2.30 euros. The sausage was good but not great. German sausages were far superior and the crepe we had in Cognac was also much better. However, the market is interesting and we wished we could try all the fruits and veggies.

This is the best market in the city of Rennes for fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and meat. It is roughly divided into fruit and vegetables stalls along the road that runs from the bottom to the top of the market. Fresh fish stalls are also in the open part as are stalls selling street food. There are 2 covered markets where you can buy meat, cheese, bread and more. The great thing about Les Lices is the variety of fresh produce that you will find and the authentic farmers who go there. It is quite expensive (you are paying to get good quality food) but if you shop carefully you will find some good prices. Make sure you get there early. The market is only open Saturday mornings!

I love markets. I’ve been to many of them and this was by far the best one I’ve ever been to. There is so much to see inside and outside. If you are staying somewhere in Rennes where you can cook then you gotta stop here to get all your fruits, veggies, cheeses and meats! We were staying in a hotel and I was so sad we could not do this. Instead we bought a bottle of cidre, a small slice of cheese, a carton of strawberries and some delicious food truck snacks and had a grand lunch. It’s busy but that’s because it’s worth it!

We love French markets and often plan our travels around the days markets are open. This covered market is one of the best and is filled with local specialties (think Marche Aligre in Paris, the Marche in Lourdes, and many others). We found kounign amann, caramel with local sea salt, tisane, herbs, bread, and pate. On Saturday, this indoor market is surrounded by an enormous outdoor market with all types of food and flowers. I think the best things are however in the indoor market.
