The Musee de l'Hotel-Dieu (Hospices de Beaun) is a priceless example of healthcare history dating from the 1400's to the 1950's. The self guided audio tour is very good. Aside from the medical history, there is a plethora of beautiful artwork

Beaune is a nice place to visit if you like French old towns, French cuisine, and especially French wine. But l'Hôtel-Dieu is on a different planet. In the XVth century Nicolas Rolin and his third wife, Guigone de Salins–powerful locals–, built and sustained an institution to provide health services to the poor, and the not so poor. Not only the... More

This museum of a hospital that was founded in the mid 1400's is well worth an hour's walk-through. The former hospital wards are preserved; exhibits describe how the hospital functioned. Of particular note is the pharmacy, where different herbs were prepared for medications, and a distillery for essential oils.

A well preserved old hospital from the WW1, they were able to bring you back to how this hospital used to be operated back then with English translation devices for foreign guests, you can really feel the ambiance of it authenticity.

Such a unique and cool hospital and Museum a must see if you are in the area. The main hall with the beds is really amazing and the history behind it as well. Traveling tip pay attention to closures as it is closed midday for a spell. They have audio guides for adults and children which is so lovely.

The Hospices de Beaune was created many years ago to provide medical care for poor children. Today while it is a museum it stands as a remarkable testament and vision to serve the underserved. It is a very moving experience.
