We called in because we were following the Owl's Trail. It seemed interesting, though as the descriptions were only in French we didn't stay as long as we might have.

Totally worth a stop if you like a bit of history for the local area. From the neolithic to the gaulish celts to the romans and then the franks there a bit of everything. Some great statuary, and a really impressive setting for the whole thing.

The Musee Archeolgique has a lovely display of Roman "finds" in Dijon - beautifully displayed. Unfortunately no signage in English which makes the visit less educational if you don't happen to be fluent in French. Still recommended

The statuary here is amazing. Situated next to the cathedral, it it easy to access. I was disappointed, tho, that the statue of the Roman god Crepitus previously in old Talant wasn't there as I read it was.

Good quality exhibits covering a diverse range of timeframes housed on 3 floors and should give something of interest to most people. Stairs were a bit of a hike especially to the top floor. Atmospheric Setting in the ground floor catacombs were most interesting.

Be prepared to use your french for the exhibition. Very interesting and very well presented. A very interesting contrast between the old abbey and the roman artifacts. Really enjoyed. Only need less than an hour to see.

We picked it as a pre lunch activity. After checking in, the tour starts on the second floor. There are tools, jewlery, vases, weapons, glass items. The most imares I've was a lare gold bracelet. The first floor appeared closed for renovation. The cellar was ancient with pillars supporting the building. It only cost time, so enjoy.

The first (underground, or maybe just low first floor) gives you a notion of how dark and cramped buildings were in the Middle Ages, even for the monks, who, even if they themselves were nominally poor, had the best infrastructure of anybody. The archeological explanations are interesting, and the price is right (free). Worth 20 minutes on a hot Sunday.
