At the invitation of Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci came to live at the Château du Clos Lucé and stayed here for the last three years of his life, devoting himself to perfecting his inventions. Leonardo was prolific and inspired, working as an engineer, architect and theatrical director, organising lavish festivities for the Court. At his residence 300 metres from the Château Royal, he drew up plans for a model château for Francis I in Romorantin and designed the double-helix open staircase in the Château de Chambord. The Château du Clos Lucé is dedicated to showing and explaining to the public the great knowledge acquired by the Italian Maestro.

The gardens are just beautiful and the displays are interesting - the only disappointment - we were starving and all restaurants were closed. Understand it is the low season but all the advertising states three restaurants!! A shame but still highly recommend a visit and then lunch at Le Patio back in town.

We greatly enjoyed our visit here. To walk the rooms that he walked gave me a thrill. While the chateau's first floor was undergoing construction, his bedroom furnishings were relocated to another spot, which was open to the public. The real joy was the attention placed on his inventions. In the basement models of many inventions were displayed, along with... More

We went there without tickets...No problems. Not to crowded because of the weather (outside experience). You will live Leonardo's live during the visit. Really interesting to see real size models all along the gardens

Good for those interested in da vinci's engineering designs or who like a stroll in a nice garden. The first floor was closed for renovation, so I think the 13€ entry is a little steep. Perhaps they could consider discounting it since part of the attraction is closed?

I'd thoroughly recommend a visit to the Chateau at Clos Luce; it was a truly wonderful day out, whether you're knowledgable about Da Vinci's life and works or not it's really worth a visit. Lots to see, a realistic rendering of lots of his creations in the extensive grounds and lots of facilities to make your visit enjoyable.

This place is just amazing! Check it out, and make time to visit the outside gardens. Another location that I think is very underrated

If you can spare an afternoon here, that would be great because there is the museum/Leonardo's home and the park that you and the children can visit. We took the guided tour and had the best guide who was so passionate about the history and the story. The museum is well restored and the park is well attended. There is... More

Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years here, how the home / museum is maintained is excellent & gives you an idea how the life has been then. Very interesting the place & beautiful. Definitely worth of visit.

The Chateau Clos de Luce is the last residence of Leonardo da Vinci. I think if you are a "grown up" the significance and subsequent emotions of this does not need any further explanation. Nevertheless, our two young children thoroughly enjoyed the visit, even though their age only permitted for a vague idea of the personality. The museum is really... More

Do not miss this if you are in Amboise. Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years here and the exhibits of his inventions at this museum are just incredible. The home itself is lovely, secluded (clos) with lovely gardens for walking, including a gorgeous resident peacock. Leonardo was a great artist and inventor, you will be extremely surprised by the...
