A good visit despite the biting cold and lack of clear instructions inside the castle. It such a charming place however, it was easy to forget about the downsides.

The setting of Azay-le-rideau is perfection! Surrounded by enormous trees on a pond takes you back to another time. They were doing restoration work on this amazing chateau so you could actually see the ancient roof rafters used in building this beautiful chateau. The self guided tour allows you to wander through the many floors and rooms, decorated with fabulous... More

Yet another fantastic chateau of the Loire area. Put it on your to visit list. Love the way it's built on the lake. Take a stroll around the pretty grounds. The small town is also very pretty and also worth a wander around and a stop for a coffee or tea.

Affordable for young people, the guided tour is the way you have to discover the castle. During one hour, you will learn the whole story of the castle since it was built. On renovation, you will better understand why repairs were becoming so urgent! I loved visited Azay-le-Rideau Castle.

Take advantage of the guided tours - hourly - to get the best experience. It lasts about an hour and you will see and hear about all that you need to know, and more. For example, the derivation of the words "secretaire" and "toillette" will be vividly demonstrated - worthwhile even for us anglophones who have borrowed those words perhaps... More

The castle was on partial renovation when we visited and it is expected to be completed in 2017. The castle is not very big but it has a moat and beautiful garden. Worth joining the guided tour to undertstand the history better. I love this castle for its simplicity. Check out the handle of the stairs, which were carved into... More

The rooms that are open now have furnishings unlike 25 years ago. But they are redoing the roof so pictures will have ugly scaffolding. Grounds are pretty.

Half of the Chateau is under restoration and construction until 2017. We went not being aware of this and were severely disappointed. You only get to enter half of the building and the other half is closed and covered by restoration barriers. I'm sure it's magnificent, but even with a discounted price, I wish we would have invested our time... More
