Chambord is the emblem of the French Renaissance through Europe and the world. The Domain of Chambord is made up of the château, a village, farms and a wooded area. The domain of Chambord is completely enclosed within a wall, all 5,440 hectares of it. That’s the equivalent of the city of Paris! It is the largest enclosed forest in Europe. The entire site has been the property of the state since 1930; when the public estate was created, article 230 of the law dated 23 February 2005 stated that the possessions making up the domain were given over to it without restriction or exceptions.

After visiting St. Emilion, we drove to Chambord (stopping briefly in Limoges). The Grand Staircase is an innovative double helix staircase supposedly designed by Leonardo da Vinci. It ensures that the person going up and the person going down cannot meet.

This chateau is the most impressive on the size scale. I personally think there are prettier chateaus, but this one dazzles in many ways: The vast estate including the forest, the approach to the castle from any directions, the sheer number of rooms, and the DNA staircase. Unfortunately when we were there, they were doing a massive overhaul of the... More

King Francois I was competing with Rome's Pope at the time he begun construction on this Loire castle/hunting lodge. The Vatican was under construction and Francois wanted an equally dazzling estate to show off his power and prowess. This is a destination castle, so take time to not only see the 425+ rooms and 365 fireplaces, but explore the vast... More

After our visit to Blois we continued to château de chambard!! A castle with a heavy history, amazing architecture and complete tour!! The tour facilities were extremely good!! Unfortunately the day was rainy and it wasn't that nice!! Though from parking to the castle there is a small distance but I would like to go back for sure!!!

This place is one of the best Chateau s I ever visited in France. First of all, it's a government domain, so they have enough investments to maintain it properly. Another amazing point is that there is no tour or 1-2-3 map, so you are free to roam as you wish and stay in any room as long as you... More

What an interesting chateau! The history and architecture are a delight. Trying to visit all rooms, you can get lost in the maze that goes around the center (incredible) double helix staircase. If you want to appreciate it all, you need at least two hours. The inside is quite cold (we were there in winter) so dress warmly and look... More

This castle is very beautiful, the parc around it makes it even better because at some time of the year you can see animals around wich gives a magical feel to the place. The only thing is that it's very empty Inside, there is no furniture so when I visited for the first time I wondered why it was so... More

We visited with friends - think / hours minimum are required. Extremely large castle - lots of history. I'm sure the gardens will be amazing once the construction is complete. Stunning gift shop. Don't miss all the views from the balconies.

We visited Chambord when travelling the Loire valley from tours. Spend a few hours here to truly explore the extent of the castle and grounds. It is absolutely massive, and to think that it was built as a holiday home of the Kings who only stayed there a few times! Climb along the walls and the main staircase designed by... More
