Chartres is more than just its magnificent cathedral. Of course, that is the major draw of the town, but if you have time, explore the old city itself, which is to the south of the cathedral and extends downslope to the river. St-Pierre is in this area and you will consider a stop here one of the true finds. The... More

Worth the short walk from the Cathedral. We were lucky enough that a local man was in the church and gave us a little tour and information about the different sections of the church (not a scam...just a nice chap). Very interesting and a welcome bit of shade and cool on a VERY hot day.

The church is about 10 minutes walk down the hill from the Cathedral Square. It is a very good example of French Gothic and quite austere inside. It has nice proportions but is showing its age. We enjoyed it.

We passed by and entered the church. Beautiful and quiet church, close to the city center. There are a lot of old building surrounding this church.

Part of the reason to pay a visit is the walk down from the Cathedral through the historic part of town. The church, however, is in a sad state of disrepair, and unfortunately cries for restoration have fallen on deaf ears at City hall. It is an impressive building, a tall nave reminiscent of the Cathedral, yet the pavement is... More

We arrived at this church while strolling down the alley ways of Old Town Chartres . Very impressive mass of a building outside but dull and neglected inside , and in a deep need of restoration , The church has a lot of potential , but in its condition right now - unfortunalely not a must .

This Church from the 7th Century is full of history. If you are in Chartres you have to visit. It has been rebuilt several times.Since 1840 has been considered a Historical Monument

Chartres is full of impressive buildings and this is certainly one of them. Not worth stopping in, however, as not much to see inside and restoration work underway - just enjoy the view from outside!

It wasn't in good shape, it smelled dank and musty, there was netting to catch the pieces of the ceiling that were falling off; but it was by far our favorite. It FELT old, cold, and beautiful. We spent almost half an hour just "being" in this space, and wandered back later in the afternoon to experience it again.
