The Chateau Chenonceau is on the river, literally on the river. Built on the foundation of a 12th century mill that formerly stood on the site, it was expanded to its current look by Catherine di Medici, who modeled the addition on the bridge loosely after her home city's Ponte Vecchio. The grounds are beautiful, the building itself is restored... More

For a relatively cheap entrance charge (12euro) you get transported back to a bygone age! Absolute one to visit, I cant recomend it highly enough. Allow about 3 hours to soak it all in.

The chateau is very impressive, from when you go through the entrance gates you know you're in for a proper French humdinger of a chateau. The gardens on the way up are well maintained and the donkeys add a bit of fun. The chateau itself is very is also in excellent condition, given the age and wear and tear considering... More

A romantic pleasure palace, Chenonceau was created from the Renaissance onward by a series of aristocratic women. The chateau stretches across the Cher River. To reach the Chateau de Chenonceau, one must make a 15 minute walk up a tree lined boulevard.

Really nice place to see. The castle is well preserved, there's nice surroundings, a lot of beautiful natural flowers and furniture. The view over the water is kind of unique. The visit is interesting with audio guides. A must see in the area.

OK - this is it. THE BEST Chateau. I can't imagine how it could be topped. It is utter perfection - like out of a fairy tale. If you can only visit one chateau, this should be it. It has an idyllic position, the building is beautiful, the river is beautiful, the interior is beautiful, the gardens are beautiful, and... More

One of the must-see castles, this one is unusually beautiful as it spans the Cher river. If your schedule only permits visiting a couple of castles, choose this one and Chambord.

If you have to make a choice which Chateau to visit, this should be on top of the list, even before Chambord.

Both the Castle and the grounds are worth the visit. It is unbelievable the role this castle played in World War II.

Beautiful surroundings : the castle was built over a river, very original ! The inside is rather empty, but walking through the dining room feels like being on a boat. Interesting kitchens.
