Go inside and experience the splendor of high Gothic. A place steeped in history too. Fun on a rainy day to see the water coming out of the mouths of the gargoyles

The already-posted reviews are on target. St. Urbain is well worth a visit, especially given it is right in the heart of the restaurant area of Troyes, When we were there last month, it was still undergoing structural renovation, but this does not detract much from the enjoyment of a lovely church. Named by Pope Urban IV after an early... More

Absolutely stunning exterior and interior! So beautiful and peaceful. It was really complimented by the beautiful old city surrounding.

This huge church was built by Pope Urban IV on the very site of his father's shoe-mending shop, and is big enough to be a cathedral... but in this case, the actual cathedral is a little further along the road and is even bigger. However, St Urban's basilica is wonderful and awe-inspiring, and has the most lovely old stained glass... More

Well worth a visit. A beautiful peaceful place. Lots of things to see and discover. I spent 15 mins in the pews just absorbing the place. It's beautiful. Go!

The history of this Basilica is really tied up with the town. Read the general information about Pope Ubain IV outside as he founded this church and oversaw the design which is beautiful. Lovely flying buttresses and lace stone work. A must see. Information in both French and English.

When we first saw Saint-Urbain in 1987, it was in sad shape. The choir windows were boarded up because the foundation of the church was unstable, its exterior was grimy, and it was open only on Sundays for services and brief visits. Today, the choir has been restored, the stained glass is back in its proper place, the exterior is... More

The church surprises as the buttresses from the outside are thin and graceful. Impression confirmed in the interior as there is no triforium only huge clerestory windows with stained glass allowing coloured light to stream in. It's as if the walls have given way to frame the stained glass masterpieces.

The outside has many arches or flying buttresses and gargoyes used to drain rainwater. The inside stained glass is worth the viewing. They also have three bells on display. For the first time, someone was dusting away the cobwebs. Never really thought about it but it must be a task. He was using a long pole with a brush on... More
