Let's be honest. It's kind of a tourist trap instead of an emporium of Jesus worship. Don't feel holy at all.

We went here on noon on Sunday. The line to get into the cathedral was long, however there is plenty of art work to review while you waiting on line. I listen to the Rick Steve’s audio tour, which started at the cathedral. The application is a must have app if touring Europe. Don’t miss the point zero marker which... More

Great ancient church if you like it. For my choice not the best one in Paris and to much tourists. I think that Saint-Eustache church is better.

Notre Dame is a beautiful cathedral with the large circular Rose Windows being must sees. To see them, you need to walk forward near the altar. They are on either side of the cathedral. Entrance is free. A service was in progress the last time I was there, but tourists were still able to walk up one side, around the... More

We enjoyed the Cathedral very much. It is beautiful and so inspiring. The views from outside and in are amazing. Take cautions when outside. The pick pockets are EVERYWHERE. There was always a police presence but that simply deters some not all of the thieves.

There is always a line to get inside the cathedral but it moves rather quickly it is free access unless you want to visit the top which has a cost of 10 euro and the queue line is at the side of the road, both are amazing views at the top you get to see the whole skyline of paris... More

The famous Notre Dame is a must-visit for everyone. Therefore queues are very likely (usually it is best in the early morning or in the evening), so avoid peak times and thereby large tourist groups. Once inside, take your time and let the atmosphere sink into you; maybe sit down for a while to look up at the ceiling. And... More

We visited late in the afternoon, all lit up it was beautiful inside and out. Take the time to go inside and walk around (but be ready for the security check on the way in). As part of a tour, this was a bit rushed, but a second visit and it was still just as beautiful. Sit and think about... More

I'm not much of a church goer but listening to the history and actually standing inside and outside of it was inspiring. The stain glass and architecture of the building was tremendous. It's even better at night time, the building is lit up beautifully, I have to say it was breathtaking to see it as night. Very romantic!

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
