Beautiful stained glass. Amazing architecture. Free entrance. Working church, please be respectful. Photos ok to take. Fee to climb the stairs. You may stay for mass if you choose. Just breathe taking.

There is a loooong cue to get inside, even if you go only for the regular mass. Wherever you go in Paris you have to wait on a line, so that's alright. When I reached the interior of the Cathedral, my anxiety vanished! Everything is enormous, artistic, beautiful. For 2 euros, you can get a souvenir coin with the logo... More

Go see the gargoyles and the giant rosettes. This cathedral will always amaze me. Try to spend a few minutes in silence just marveling at this feat.

We viewed the outside of this iconic church during the day as well but we only entered at night to attend a concert. The concert was very good and the cathedral was lovely inside, beautifully lit and surprisingly warm. Impressive though the gothic interior is, I do think that Notre Dame has a more striking exterior. We did not ascend... More

First I was there at Saturday in the afternoon. It was crowdy, so I didn't went inside. Found a bench in the park between Norte Dam and the river, the weather was sunny, so it was relaxing just to sit and watch the people passing by. I went back Sunday morning, then no queue at all. A Catholic religious service... More

This Cathedral is amazing. Not to mention the tour guide we were with gave us a lot of history about the building, it's role during the revolution, and much more! A must see for sure!

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
