Beautiful inside and out! They call it Gothic for a reason. It's free to go in and I waited about 20min in the queue (that's about 11am). If you wanna go into the treasury, it's £5. They have mini souvenir carts inside. The best church I've seen between France and Italy.

Spectacular. If you are there at the right time, you can sit and participate in the mass. Beautiful. They also have a gift shop with exceptional items

We had a great time touring this amazing space. It was quite crowded and unfortunately some tourists who did not respect this holy space by talking loudly and arguing. It was great to see just wish that the crowds that day could have been a little more respectful. Loved that there were priests there praying along with others.

The access to the cathedral is free and open every day of the year during opening hours. It is one of the oldest Gothic cathedrals in France. The cathedral was dedicated to the Virgin Mary - “Notre Dame” (Our Lady). The cathedral is centrally located on the Ile de la Cité, the area of Paris that divides the city's right... More

I attended a Christmas Midnight Mass, at this cathedral. The choir was fabulous. The organ is unique. This encouraged me to come back, so as to make a tour, which I could not complete, due to my old age, because you need to be in a good shape, so as to visit the bell tower and the rest of the... Paris city developped here around the cathedral built on this Ile de la cité island on the middle of the Seine river in 1163. Its height, the lightning, the size, the great stained glass windows, the stone, the the silence...all contribute to really impress the visitor and make this so famous monument a peaceful and impressing durable experience.

Architectural enthusiasts love this site. I can't even begin to adequately convey all the design implications. It is amazing, both inside & out. The flying buttresses were explained in some detail by our guide. Of course, the religious, political, & historical significances make this site very prominent.

Go on a Sunday for the services and organ music, it's simply breathtaking! You can still walk around while services are going on and it's free. Also would recommend purchasing a joint ticket for the crypt and catacombs (entrance for the catacombs several metro stops away) and you must go on the same day, but they're worth it!

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
