On our evening tour of Paris, we passed the Liberty Flame on the way to the Eiffel Tower. It's dramatic at night given that it is golden and the night lighting really makes it glow. The Liberty Flame really stands out in the evening darkness.

But probably this spot is more famous as the place where Princess Diana died in the tragic car accident 31st August 1997.

This monument though not dedicated to Princess Diana is now associated with her and her tragic death. People still visit and leave flowers and love locks.

Not so much as for what it is, or what it looks like, but more for what it does to you. One cannot help but remember the beautiful Princess Diana and her tragic death. We made our way here and just being here was quite...More

Although still labelled as the Liberty Flame, its location directly above the tunnel where Princess Diana was killed has led to it becoming a memorial to her, even 20 years after her death, with flowers, messages and dozens of padlocks around the railings.

This is the neighbourhood of grand and impressive
Haussmann-designed apartments and buildings. National
museums overlook the Eiffel Tower and embassies fill
the avenues and streets. Locals head to the butcher,
florist, or bakery on their daily rounds amidst luxury
and splendour, all with a view over Paris and its most
famous tower. Snuggled in between the grand buildings
