Wow---this is incredibly impressive. The history, sure, but the adornment in the rooms, stairway, the opera itself, is a kind of luxury foreign to Americans. There's an admission charge, but its well worth it. Note, this is not the active Opera house....

Top quality evening from a musical perspective...the production of Iphigenie was less ..puzzling, and a bit ugky, although well executed.

I was excited to tour the Palais Garnier. I have some balance issues but managed to climb the grand staircase. Once upstairs, I worried about going back down without a firm railing. The gentleman at the museum kindly accompanied me to the elevator . My only disappointment was that the theatre was dark and i could not see the Chagall... More

We did the individual tour with audio headphones which lasted one hour and was easy to follow and understand. The building is so impressive - wish we would have been able to see a performance there during our stay. We had bought a combo ticket and visited the Musee d'Orsay and Musee de l'Orangerie the day before and those tickets... More

This building is so beautiful and the history behind it is very interesting. I just wish I had been able to see a ballet while I was visiting Paris, I'm sure it would have been fantastic!

I had tickets to see the ballet George Ballanchine through work and it was amazing! Having trouble arriving by public transportation, I missed the introduction but was told I could either stay and wait to be seated or go up to the top floor where I could view from afar the rest of the intro. So while I waited, I... More

A must see for sure. It's full of history and the architecture is wonderful. The front building is impressive and often used as a meeting point. During the night, the building is even more beautiful. Inside, it's just piece of old luxury time. Highly recommended.

We spent a morning at Palais Garnier taking a guided two hour tour. Worth the time and the tour was not expensive. Buying a ticket at the Opera House with no advance reservation was a breeze, just get there before they open. Opulent does not describe this architectural gem. Exceeded our expectations! The grand stair case, the auditorium and Marc... More

The architecture alone will astonish you. Beautiful murals and marble at every corner you turn. They will have one door open to the opera seats so you can view the stage. The original Phantom of the Opera performed here. The Opera House is a stop on the hop on/off Big Bus.

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
