We went to see the famous Market Area and were disappointed that the August Holiday period for Europeans also affected the outdoor market. Some shops were open and that provided some relief but the true market experience was missing until next time.

Having been a couple of times in 2006 at Christmas and finding the market a fantastic experience, I was disappointed to find it dead when I visited in August 2014. Probably my fault; I went early on a mid week day. I suspect it is only firing on weekends or after mid morning.

We went there on Tuesday to see the local fresh market. Unfortunately the "real" market was closed, but the small local shops have attracted us Especially the sweets in Les Chants De Ble.

I went to the market on a Saturday morning to do my grocery shopping. Perhaps my expectations were too high, as I had seen it being recommended on one of Anthony Bourdain's programs. The market was smaller than I expected. There are some awesome vendors, it is true, but not all of them are equally good. Just be careful where... More

Lovely to wander through the streets, buying something here and something else there. Everything from artisan bread, patisserie, fruit and vegetables which are beautifully displayed, meat, chicken and fish. The locals shop here and it is unspoiled. Full of genuine Parisian atmosphere. The people are friendly and dont mind you standing for ages while you decide what you want to... More

We prefer Maubert Mutualite but this market is also worth visiting. This is where we found the chickens roasting with their juices helping to cook the roast potatoes beneath them! Good selection if fruit and veggies.

i love wandering around in street markets wherever I visit a place... patisserie, charcutier, cheese, seafood, wine, chocolate... then people playing music on the street... and I bought some clothes from a local designer at her shop!

This is arguably the best market street in Paris. If it's edible, you will find it there. Amazing cafes, patisseries, fromageries, fruit and vegetable stands. For residents it's a great place to shop for meat, poultry and fish. I lived close by for years and it remains my favorite market. Just wandering around gives you a sense of the real... More

Very close to where we were staying and we loved it - truly felt that this was unspoilt Parisien life at its best with all the local fishmongers, artisan boulangers etc, all local residents visiting their local shops Very stark contrast to the commercialism of a lot of Paris

This market is only open Saturday and Sunday mornings, and I think Wednesday morning. Besides a food market with fruits and vegetables, it is a big flea market with lots of cutlery, china, crystal, amazing collection of wine glasses, all for great prices. Along rue Mouffetard are many boulangeries, patisseries, fromageries and chocolatiers. We past a line for Maison Morange... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
