When I was in Paris many years ago this church was directly behind our apartment. So we had to visit for old time's sake. It is an interesting mix of architecture, but we always enjoy finding special places in out of the way churches. This also happens to be the resting place of St. Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris. It is very close to the Pantheon, but does not get nearly as many visitors, so it is quiet and one can explore in peace.

The big attraction here is the rood screen which is pretty special and artful. But it is also a classing old parish church in a historic area.

Eglise Saint-Etienne-du-Mont de Paris is quite an old church but a very beautiful building. It is absolutely stunning on the interior and not to be missed. It is located near the famous Pantheon. We visited the Pantheon and intended visiting Eglise Saint-Etienne-du-Mont de Paris later, however we ended up missing out. We will make sure next time we put it top of our list.

Eglise Saint-Etienne-du-Mont de Paris includes a variety of architectural styles, incorporated over its many years of construction. Beautiful artifacts throughout the church that make for a very interesting visit. A typical Paris church that gives one a sense of peace and tranquility. If you love churches, architecture, and history, a must visit.

Looking at this structure, it looks like a hotch-potch, of architecture styles, started out as gothic, however taking so long to build it took on renaissance styles as well.

The famous Pantheon should be on everyone's to do list in Paris, so if you did that, almost right next door is this cute Church.
The Church is a mix of Gothic-Renaissance architecture with beautiful stained glass and shrine dedicated to Paris' patron saint. However, the biggest impression on me left the twin spiral stone carved staircase.

This church is interesting to visit at least for a single specific feature - its "jube" which is the last of its kind in Paris. There are around 30 left in France as well as some in Belgium, Germany, Italy or UK; so chances are not that big to come across one.

A Jube - or rood screen - is typical of the medieval times, where it served as partition between the chancel and the nave. It would be heavily decorated and often carrying a Crucifixion statue on top.

The one in this church is done in stone, which seems almost impossible to achieve - with lacework done in cutting out stone; just astonishing. It is from the early 16th century, and I do not believe it has been repaired in all that time.

You cannot approach it directly up close, but watch it from the sides and at some distance in front - but this gives you plenty of angles to admire the amazing details with the Gothic and renaissance styles.

The church also contains the remains of the saint patron of Paris - Sainte Geneviève - who should have been transferred to the next door Pantheon; and to whom many addresses in the neighborhood are also dedicated.

I really like the white colored stones which give an amazing lightness to the church despite all the ornamentations; a true work of art!

Very interesting basilica with a pretty amazing history. It is lighter than many other churches inside, and a design that is truly unique. A quick stop if you are visiting the Pantheon.

Feeling overwhelmed by the sights and must do's of Paris - slow down in this lovely old church. The gardens are small- just a stones throw from the Sein but offer a respite from the gotta sees of Paris. check the front door for small piano recitals and enjoy Paris without the crowds.
