As previous reviews have said the 'Potager' feels almost abandoned, neglected and overgrown. There was almost nothing to look at, and after visiting beautiful workings gardens run by the National Trust in the U.K. (like Sissinghurst in Kent), the contrast was extraordinary. Working vegetable gardens...More

Wonderful tranquility and naturalness compared to the palace gardens 10 minutes walk apart. The palace gardens were crowded with people when there were barely 20 at the potager. The kitchen gardens are maintained using permaculture and organic practices and there were lots of insects and...More

I visited this royal vegetable plot around 20 years ago and my memory was that it was AMAZINGLY beautiful. Well what a decline, everywhere there is an atmosphere of abandon and messiness. We peered into one green house only to see a load of dead...More

After visiting the castle, the place is unique to discover the various plants that are grown here. Place is quiet and nice. A true delight for natural perfumes and the five senses.

My expectations may have been too great ... lots of fallen fruit, weeds and no sense of dynamic gardening activity - all in all somewhat disappointing.apart from the King's Gate and a little arbour close to the fence. Nil produce for sale in the shop...More

I went on a tour with La Cusine - Paris. It was an amazing feeling to go left when everyone else went right when we got off the train at Versailles. This spot was basically empty; a few staff members and students. It is now...More

My wife and I are not green thumbs so weren't that impressed. The history was interesting but not a lot else.

We thought we would add the King's Gardens to our itinerary when we were at Versailles and were so excited to see the place touted as: the place where the king's gardeners grew all the herbs, fruit and vegetables etc for the palace, boasting that...More
