This canal is free to visit but has not that big 'wauw-factor'. It's just a very very big lake but in the form of a cross. You can rent a rowing boat to explore. But you're view are only trees and if you look very...More

The Grand Canal occupies the east-west axis of the Palace and stretches from beyond the Apollo's fountain to practically as far as the eye can see. It is surrounded by trees on all sides and is intersected in the middle by a transverse north-south canal...More

The grand canal is truly grand. The view is amazing. We wanted to go on a boat ride but it was very hot and the line was considerably long. Take the time to walk beside the canal and enjoy.

Certainly a lovely place to promenade along or indeed hire a boat or a bike. Have a picnic and just spend time immersing yourself in the calm of the area, mind you on a warm day there are one or two others that will be...More

With choppy water due to weather we learned several tips in our Grand Canal tour including that a taxi tour had lots of advantages. 1) one hour taxi tour for four of us was 120 euros; gondola was 30 min for 100 euros. 2) while...More

This was within full view of the gardens, but just outside the perimeter. It was full of couples in rowboats!

You can rent a boat and row over the Grand Canal. Lovely to do on a summers day. Or you can watch the rowing boats from the terrace of the nearby restaurant

The canal is the heart of the gardens of Versailles. On a sunny day you should rent a boat (17€perHour) and enjoy the breathtaking view to the Castel. We took some Picknick with us and enjoyed a wonderful time on the water.

I cannot say on the canal tickets for Versailles. As for the fountains: the times (I was told) vary by season. We did not see them on our visit. On a return visit I would skip the palace and just tour the grounds, especially... More
