Stunning in December

Mid July is hot and crowded, however a visit in December is wonderful. All the shops are open but the ease of movement through the old streets is fantastic.

Carcassone was like visiting a real, live Disney castle. The perfect turrets, nooks and crannies, and beautiful vistas were breath-taking. This was a highlight of our trip to Southern France. We were also happy to spend the night inside the city walls so that we could enjoy it after the tourists left for the day and the streets were quiet.

Lovely city. Really good place to visit - but probably only for a long day. The rest of the region is beautiful, so good place to base yourself.

the best moment of the day to visit is early in the morning or after 8pm because the shops are closed and the place looks more as a medieval city. don t eat in the restaurants inside the medieval city , because most of them only serve canned food that they say is home cooked!

At least a day of activity including a tour of the citadel. Plenty of restaurants offering good choice of budget & taste.

This is probably the best Medieval city we ever visite and we visited few. It's quite big, has loads of amenities and a number of good restaurants. We will be back

Glad we persevered and found the medieval city since our GPS only took us to the modern city. In spite of being able to see the medieval city on the hill, it was still a bit difficult to find! Signage was unclear as to how and where to enter. We ended up going up the back side in the hope... More

We did this on a tour and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was amazed at the excellent condition of the city and the history. It rained while we were there but it did not dampen our visit. I would have loved to stay at the hotel within the walls.

A perfect place to celebrate a special occasion like my daughters 50th birthday. The peace and quiet among such surroundings are very difficult to find but worth it when you do.

This is an UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in the fifth century. Well preserved and a joy to visit. It takes the visitor back in time. The shops and cafes are incorporated into the period. It is free to enter and well worth the time.
