Castle & Fortifications A royal palace of the medieval Mediterranean Located in the heart of Perpignan, this 13th century palace was for nearly a century the center of the ephemeral Kingdom of Mallorca. Its construction, completed after 1300 in the Gothic style, recalls the status of Perpignan as economic, political and cultural center of the medieval Mediterranean.

The castle is just one of the many attractions of this fascinating and historic city. I also recommend Narbonne, with it's massive cathedral, and evidence of Roman settlement. (Not too far from Perpignan. If you feel lioke hiring a car, take the D900 south (rather...More

We found the fortress very different to anything we have seen previously. Like most french historic places it is not furnished but one could imagine what it was like when the Majorcan Court travelled to it

Went with low expectations but really enjoyed looking round and the views from the top. Our little girl enjoyed running up and down the stairs!

Very interesting Palace with access to many rooms and a spiral-staircase climb to a wonderful 360 degree view of Perpignan. The chapel is especially moving. The entrance is a long uphill walk from ground level and there are many steps up and down through the...More

Great castle. Many secret rooms. Fantastic view of entire city and as far as the Mediterranean. We spent a couple hours here and in old city.

We were quite taken aback by the size of this 13th century palace - more of a fortress which has certainly withstood the passage of time. Great views from the palace walls, very interesting construction, some beautiful old pieces of furniture, too. The two chapels...More

I've given this site a top review as for the views alone it's worth it! It's free on a Sunday 4 Euro entry other days.. not sure I'd pay 4 Euro just for the view.

there is parking but access to the palace is up a steep climb and the access is cobbled so may be difficult to access if using a chair or with mobility problems
