One of the most awe-inspiring places I've ever visited.

Take time to read about how the Germans and French almost bled each other white over the space of 10 months. Then go visit the museum and walk the battlefields. It is one of the most somber places I've ever visited.

Recently in Verdun without a car and with many of the historical sites closed for January, we contacted Ingrid to see if she would be interested in showing us around. When she said 'yes' it was the best thing that could have happened for us! Even though we couldn't go into the Ossuary, Fort Douamont or the Museum, our tour... More

For people interested in war history this place is amazing. I was only able to spend a day in the area but could have easily spent 3 or 4. 100yrs later the battle field still bares the scares of the 300 day battle. Many museums, monuments and bunkers to explore and surprisingly cheap to enter. Go to the info center... More

My great grandfather Sqt. Walter de Haven was killed in action on the first day of the Meuse Argonne Offensive in "The Great War" in 1918. The more our family learned little tidbits about Walter the more research we did. Then one day we found where he was buried , The Meuse Argonne American Cemetery near Verdun France. From that... I can strongly recommend the Verdun battlefield to anyone who wants to get a feel for what this terrible tragedy was all about. The battlefield sites are very well maintained and an huge amount of work has been put into presenting them in an historically authentic and very enlightening way. On this occasion, I visited the two main forts open... More

We hired Iain McHenry who took us to Verdun for a day tour. Absolutely outstanding. He has a great knowledge of World War I and the Verdun Battle, and is also an excellent guide. Knows exactly how to give you an overview. My husband is a history buff and he was extremely pleased, with Iain's tour that I planned ahead of... More

A must see when in the area. Lovely surroundings. Most impressive. Near Verdun on the left bank of the Meuse also really nice private museums and things to visit concerning the Meuse-Argonne battlefield.

The battlefields are well memorialized, and well signed. Access is easy, and it is quite interesting.

There are quite a few things to check out while you are there. The Ossuary is quite an unusual building: magnificent. Inside you can buy a ticket to see a short information film and also climb the tower. Outside you can go around the back and look through windows to see many of the bones of those who lost their...
