The Pic du Jer, towering over the town, is recognizable by its large cross which is illuminated at night. You can get there by a hundred-year-old funicular railway which takes you to the summit at an altitude of 1000 metres in a few minutes; it's a charming trip. At the top, a gentle path takes you to the observatory, where you will discover a unique panoramic viewpoint offering a 360° view over Lourdes, Tarbes, Pau, the Argeles-Gazost valley and the summits of the Pyrenees.

I most enjoyed the walk to the summit. Aside from the restful view at the top, the trail was lined with beautiful trees and plants, some of them with information labels. Friendly trail, too, as it zigzaged to the top. There are spots, however, that...More

I walked to the summit of Pic du Jer. It was. Beautiful walk on well-graded paths. The trail separates the walkers from the mountain bikers. It took me about 90 minutes to reach the top of the finucular and another 15 to the very top,...More

Took the bus from the Sanctuary for a couple of euros to the base of the funicular at Pic du Jer. Very long and spectacular funicular up the mountainside. Cafe at the top with stunning views. Well worth the trip.
